I've got a crazy idea

On the twenty fifth of May, I intend to fly from Brisbane airport Australia to Heathrow airport in  London - UK.

Then make my way down to Cornwall to the town of  Penzance via train, I will stay over night then the next morning I will take a bus to Lands end and begin my journey of a life time (to me that is ) .

I intend to and hope to walk the full length of Great Britain from Lands end to John o Groats also on the way, up in Scotland I pass Ben Nevis the tallest mountain in Great Britain ; I intend to climb this also.

I will be sticking to trails and national parks and avoiding roads as much as possible.

The estimated time if I follow Andy Robinsons great book the end to end trail is around 60 days. (So give or take)

Also another great source of information is Mark Moxons blog https://www.landsendjohnogroats.info/  it is a treasure trove of information in regards to doing this walk.

I do not intend to rush this walk as I want to take in the great landscapes and scenery that Britain has to offer.

I will be staying in bed and breakfast's - Old pubs and hostels also some camping. Also hope to taste a few of the fine local ales on the way.

I hope to do a daily blog with updates and pictures of where I have been and what I've done.

I have been contemplating doing this walk for around the last 3.5 years that is when i got the crazy idea and urge to do it. I was going to do it sooner but with covid happening I had to put it off for a while.

The new threat i suppose is the war in Ukraine but I recon to hell with it I am going do it. (A life lived in fear is a life half lived) so the saying goes but I believe  it to be true.

I tried to talk my 18 year old Son Oliver to come with me he said no not so interested (i wonder why).😏

Why am I walking Lejog;

  • The adventure of it is number one I suppose.
  • I love to keep fit; so fits in perfectly as I like to set goals and I am not one for just lying on a beach.
  • This is a bit of a pilgrimage for me as I have lived in Australia for over 35 years and spent little time back in UK .
  • Visit some  places I have always wanted to check out .
  • Also because I can; nothing holding me back ( life life is too short). Just do it.
  • Also a holiday with a mission.
  • Also catch up with a few relatives.
